School Vision PDF Print
The philosophy of Dirigo High School is an extension of MSAD #21's philosophy. The high school years are a time of transition between youth and adulthood in which students must acquire knowledge and skills to develop independence, maturity, and a sense of responsibility. The challenge at Dirigo High School is to facilitate this transition by providing programs relevant to the broad range of student needs, interests, abilities, and aspirations, and also to maintain a school environment that supports this diversity.

To accomplish this, the faculty will continue to design and implement a challenging, high-quality curriculum which nurtures students as individuals and develops their sense of self-worth and confidence. Maine's Common Core of Learning has grouped traditional subjects into four major areas: personal and global stewardship, communication, reasoning and problem solving, and the human record. In order to attain the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes in those areas, the focus must include content orientation and processing and applying information. Dirigo High School's goal is to provide the knowledge and skills required for success in the twenty-first century.

The school will provide extra-curricular activities through which students can gain skills and an appreciation of the wide selection of disciplines. These programs offer recognition, camaraderie, and self esteem, as well as the potential gain of life-long recreation and enjoyment.

Dirigo High School strives not only to provide continuing education, but also to serve as a source of community spirit and pride. Dirigo High School promotes cooperation among parents, faculty, and the business community to ensure the growth and development of our youth.
